Sustenance

Interactive Installation

Etched mirror, kiln casted glass corn,
home grown ornamental corn from the garden.

Sustenance explores the delicate balance between nourishment, memory, and self-affirmation. At its center lies an etched mirror reflecting the words “I kneel into a dream where I am good & I am loved,” reiterating a plea of self-worth and longing. Surrounded by hay bales, the work draws on ideas of harvest, labor, and cultivated care.

Ornamental corn grown from my garden is placed alongside hand-sculpted ears of corn made of glass, bridging the tangible with the symbolic. Corn is a staple of sustenance across cultures and generations, and therefor becomes a metaphor for resilience and growth reflecting on what we inherit, what we cultivate, and what we ultimately offer to ourselves and others.

Projected images of nature fill the space, creating a dreamlike environment where reverence is offered. The viewer is able to kneel by the foot of the hay and see themselves reflected in the mirror, along with the scenes of nature, as the mantra transitions into a soft prayer.
